ilex Application in Agriculture

Ilex (Imidacloprid 30.5% SC) controls the Sucking pest of various crops very effectively. Ilex SC formulation helps to increase the efficiency of wetting, spreading and absorption on the leaf surface. Being systemic in nature, it is relatively safer to natural enemies and acts selectively on sucking pests.

MODE OF ACTION

Ilex is a systemic insecticide that acts as an insect neurotoxin and belongs to a class of chemicals called the neonicotinoids which act on the central nervous system of insects.

FEATURES & BENEFITS

  • Ilex formulation in suspension concentrate. It is chloro-nicotinyl insecticide wit soil, seed and foliar use.
  • Ilex effectively controls pest like rice hoppers, Whiteflies and termites.
  • Ilex readily taken up by the plant & further distributed acropetally, with good root- systemic action.
  • Ilex is the ideal for IPM programme.

ilex Application as House Hold Products

It is a new generation Termiticide that contains Imidaclorpid 30.5% SC. It is a systemic insecticide for control of termites in buildings, which can be, used both for pre and post construction treatment. It is first non-repellent liquid Termiticide with a unique mode of action to control even toughest subterranean termite infestations through a process called "Lateral Soil Movement". Lateral Soil Movement ensures no contamination of underground water.

Ilex is a new generation Insecticide for Termite control that contains Imidacloprid 30.5% SC as the active ingredient. It is a systemic and contact insecticide for the control of Termites in buildings, which can be, used both for pre and post construction treatments. It is indigenously developed, manufactured and marketed by BACF.

Unique features of Ilex

  • A derivative from Imidaclopid. the latest and fastest growing molecule with lethal action on termites
  • A non-repellent systematic & contact insecticide.
  • Depending on soil moisture, spreads in all directions by a process called 'Latest Soil Movement', ensuring thorough soil coverage with no gaps.
  • A water-based formulation and has no volatile solvents. Offers long duration of control.
  • No smell. pollution or contamination of underground/well water. Completely safe, having low toxicity towards people & pets
  • Ensures nil or minimal re-treatments (<1.0%) during the first five years if treatment is carried out as per recommendations.
  • Approved by CIB.

Mode of Action

  • Creates a 'Non Detectable Treated Zone' which acts as 'killing field'.
  • Acts on the Acetyl Choline, binding sites in the receptor cells leading to lasting impairment.
  • Exposed termites stop feeding and consequently die.

Dosage of Ilex

  • 2.1 ml per 1L of water or
  • 1L ready solution per 475L of water

The treatment should be done with the help of Hand Knapsack sprayer or Foot sprayer.

Method of Treatment

Ilex can be used both in Pre and Post construction Treatment. Treatment should be as per IS 6313 (Part 2): 2001 and IS 6313 (Part 3): 2001 for Pre-Construction chemical treatment and for Post-Construction chemical treatment as under:

Pre-Construction Treatment

Stage I - Masonry Foundation & Basements

The bottom surface and the sides of foundation pits upto a height of about 30 cm should be treated @ 5 L/sq.m area with the help of Ilex ready solution.

Stage 2 - Refill Earth

The backfill earth in immediate contact with the foundation structure should be treated @ 7.5 L of Ilex ready solution per square meter of the vertical surface of the sub-structure for each side.

Stage 3 - Under Slab

Before laying the slab on the floor the top of the consolidated earth should be treated with Ilex ready solution @5L/sq.m. The treated soil must not be disturbed between the time of application and laying of slab on the floor.
If the filled earth has been well rammed and the surface does not allow the termiticide solution to seep through, holes upto 5-7.5 cm deep & 12 mm diameter at 15cm intervals to be made for facilitating saturation of the soil with the chemical.

Stage 4 - External Perimeter

If the refill earth was not treated, the earth along the external perimeter of the building after completion should be rodded at 15cm interval to a depth of 30 cm to expose the foundation wall surface. Ilex ready solution should be poured along the wall @ 7.5 L/sq.m of the vertical surface and the earth tamped back into place.

Stage 5 - RCC Foundation & Basements

The concrete is hard, which the termites are unable to penetrate. Excavations in this case should start at a depth of 50 cm below the ground level.
If the ground level is raised or lowered by filling or cutting after the foundations have been cast, the depth of 50 cm shall be determined from the new soil level. The soil in immediate contact with the vertical surfaces of RCC foundations should be treated @7.5 L/sq.m of Ilex ready solution.

Post Construction Treatment

Destruction of termite mounds:

Termite mounds are to be located in and around construction sites. These mounds should be cut open and Ilex ready solution @ 20 L/mound poured into them.

External perimeter/along outside of foundations:

The soil in contact with the external wall of the building should be treated with Ilex ready solution @ 7.5 L/sq.m of the vertical surface of the sub structure to the depth of 30cm. A shallow channel can be excavated along and close to the wall and rodding with 12mm diameter mild steel rods at 15 cm interval to a depth of 30 cm can be done for uniform dispersal of the chemical.

Prevent entry of termites from cracks:

The soil under the floor should be treated and 12mm holes drilled at 30 cm interval, at the junction of floor and wall upto the depth of 30cm. Ilex ready solution should be applied into these holes using a hand operated ressure pump @1L per hole and sealed subsequently after the treatment.

Restricting movement of termites through masonry walls:

This is done by drilling 12mm holes at 30 cm intervals in masonry wall at plinth level at about 450o angle on both the sides of the wall. Ilex ready solution @1L per hole should be applied and the holes sealed subsequently. This treatment can also be extended to internal walls having foundations in the soil.

Post Construction Treatment Precautions

Handle the chemical with all the due precautions which are as given below

  • Avoid contact with skin, eyes 8 mouth and use protective clothes, face masks and gloves at the time of spray.
  • Avoid inhalation of the spray mist. Spray in the direction of wind.
  • While spraying in kitchen, all the food articles have to be removed.
  • Avoid smoking, drinking, chewing 8 eating during spray operations.
  • Avoid the chemical from the reach of children & pets.
  • Ilex should be stored in a separate rooms or premises, away from the rooms or premises used for storing other articles or shall be kept in separate almirahs under lock and key.
